Maybe the grandkids should have anticipated this. Grandpa, after all, is still driving a 1984 Chevy.
But they live far away and miss him and wanted to communicate. Exchange texts, email him photos of their sports awards, do video chats on holidays.
So time and again over the phone they talked him through the process.
“Get on the keyboard, Grandpa, and get on Skype and we’ll be able to see each other while we chat.”
Grandpa did what they said. He tried several different keyboards. But nothing seemed to work. When he visited at their home, he could play games with the kids and help them fill their piggy banks, but he wasn’t very computer literate.
Finally the grandchildren had a chance to visit at Grandpa’s house and were able to figure out the problem.
After that, internet contact with Grandpa went a lot more smoothly.
